Desde que fue posible, desde que abandonamos las estrellas y no quedamos quietos, construir ciudades es una de las cosas que más tiempo y esfuerzo ha generado para los humanos. Un lugar donde vivir, un lugar al cual pertenecer y poder volver si algún día nos decidimos partir.
Y no consiste únicamente en la construcción física de lugares para habitar y sobrevivir. Nos hemos encargado también de la construcción simbólica de nuestras ciudades. Relatos, canciones y poemas han hablado por siglos de ciudades colosales, tanto por su arquitectura como de las personas y situaciones que ahí acontecieron. Y para mi esa es la arquitectura simbólica de las ciudades, es la capacidad que tiene una ciudad de inventarse a si misma. Y qué pasa entonces cuando los poemas se transforman en imágenes? Cuál es el papel de la imagen en esta arquitectura mental de las ciudades?
Y si la imagen juega un papel importante en este proceso, cuál es el papel que cumplen las redes social, la media, los productos audiovisuales de estas ciudades de reales fantasmagóricos?
Creo que finalmente la fotografía y la arquitectura son dos formas de construcción de ciudades. Pero que la fotografía tiene también la capacidad de crear ciudades dentro de las ciudades. Mil versiones de un espacio, mil ciudades. Y la imagen es una prueba de la existencia de estas ciudades que no todos hemos conocido, es aquello que podemos percibir de un espacio. Por ende la fotografía se transforma en la ciudad, la inventa a su manera.
Uno de los fenómenos más interesantes que tiene la imagen y los medios es precisamente ese enamoramiento de la construcción a través de la fotografía y existen medios y personas completamente dedicados a esta invención de las ciudades a través de la imagen.
En este caso, les traigo un caso de cómo Instagram y la imagen pueden crear ciudades interesantes. Alper Yesiltas es un abogado y fotógrafo de la ciudad de Estambul y se centra en recrearla como un espacio en donde seres humanos, edificios colosales, las gaviotas y el agua conviven para deleitarnos con una ciudad magnifica de rojos y azules. Su tierna relación con los escarabajos antiguos, los barcos y los pequeños detalles nos muestran una ciudad silenciosamente cuidadosa y de un espíritu inmemorial y delicado.
